1. Correlations of crime rates over 50 U.S. states

Description file, Raw data, Excel file, SPSS data file.

Title: Correlations of crime rates over 50 U.S. states

Source: Wilkinson (1990).

Description: The U.S. Statistical Abstract 1970 issued by
the Bureau of the Census provides statistics on the rate of
different crimes in the 50 U.S. states. The table contains the
correlations between the seven crimes:

crime
murder
rape
robbery
assault
burglary
larceny
autotheft

2. Intelligence tests

Description file, Raw data, Excel file, SPSS data file.

Title: Intelligence tests

Source: Guttman (1965)

Description: Correlation matrix of eight intelligence test items.

3. Job performance

Description file, Raw data, Excel file, SPSS data file.

Title: Job performance

Sourc: Lawler (1967)

Description: Correlations among nine items concerning job satisfaction.
The items assess three performance criteria (T1 to T3) by three
different methods (M1 to M3). Such a matrix is called a
multitrait-multimethod matrix. The performance criteria are:

T1 = quality of job performance
T2 = ability to perform the job
T3 = effort put forth on the job

The three methods are:

M1 = superior ratings
M2 = peer ratings
M3 = self ratings

The nine items are combined in the following way:

T1M1
T2M1
T3M1
T1M2
T2M2
T3M2
T1M3
T2M3
T3M3

4. Perceived similarity of nations

Description file, Raw data, Excel file, SPSS data file.

Title: Perceived similarity of nations

Source: Wish (1971)

Description: Wish (1971) asked 18 students to rate the global
similarity of different pairs of nations such as 'France and China' on
a 9-point rating scale ranging from `1=very different' to `9=very
similar'. The table shows the mean similarity ratings. The 12 nations
are:

Brazil
Congo
Cuba
Egypt
France
India
Israel
Japan
China
UdSSR
USA
Yugoslavia

5. Psychiatric patients

Description file, Raw data, Excel file, SPSS data file.

Title: Psychiatric patients

Source: Mezzich (1978)

Description: Severity ratings (on 0..6 scale) of four prototypical
psychiatric patients on 17 symptoms by 10 psychiatrists.

The rows correspond to the following prototypical patients:

Row Type
1-10 Depressive
11-20 Manic
21-30 Schizophrenic
31-40 Paranoid

6. Vocational interests

Description file, Raw data, Excel file, SPSS data file.

Title: Vocational interests

Source: Beuhring and Cudeck (1985)

Description: Correlation matrix of seven vocational interest
scales. The interests are:

Scale
Health
Science
Technology
Trades
Business Operations
Business Contact
Social

7. Wheels

Description file, Raw data, Excel file, SPSS data file.

Title: Wheels

Source: Broderson (1968)

Description: Ten stimuli were constructed that looked like one-spoked
wheels. These stimuli were circles varying in diameter from 12.5 mm to
32.5 mm; they also had a drawn-in radius line at angles varying from
21 to 69 degrees. Each of the 45 pairs of the one-spoked wheels 1,
..., 10 was drawn on a card and presented to subjects with the
instruction to rate this pair's global similarity on a scale from '1=
minimal similarity' to '7=maximal similarity'. This led to a 10 times
10 matrix of similarity scores for each subject. The table contains
the mean scores for all 50 subjects are shown in .
